Institutions
and 501(c)(3)s

If you’re looking for a fee-only advisor for your institution to help with portfolio and cash management, we’re here to help you take control, with confidence.

Where can institutions
turn when they want
fee-only portfolio advice?

You are passionate about your mission and the institution you help direct. You want your assets to grow to allow your institution to keep doing the incredible work it’s doing. Deep in your gut, you know you are paying too much for portfolio management and somehow, the market seems to be doing better than your portfolio.

Many institutions are switching to fee-based financial advisors because they want objective, commission-free advice.

We’re a fee-only financial advisor, which means we only charge by the hour for services like portfolio management, budgeting, and cash flow consulting. No wrap fees. No commissions. No product sales.

If you’ve been searching for fee-only financial advisors, you’ve found a partner who puts your organization first.

You work with Lori Atwood, CFP® who has over 25 years experience in finance working with all types of institutions. She will help you pick the right custodian or stay with your current one, update your investment policy as needed, and critically provide an asset allocation that fits your organization’s needs. Lori will be there every step of the way as you transition your portfolio.

Does fee-only advice make sense for your organization?

Legacy asset management doesn’t communicate much with you.

  • You see a lot of trades go by, but you’re not sure your returns are keeping up with your investment policy or the market.
  • Your institution wants to move past the legacy assets-under-management advisor that doesn’t fit your mission or the community you serve.
  • You’re exploring financial advisor fee-based models, but want clarity and transparency.
  • You prefer to work with a fee-only fiduciary financial advisor who aligns advice with purpose.

This is where working with an hourly financial advisor gives you control and peace of mind.

Frequently asked questions

Sometimes you want expert advice on profitability, pricing and business model and you don’t want a long term commitment.

Can you give us investment advice and have our money remain where it is?
Yes, we work with your existing custodian (bank where your assets are held). If you think you would benefit from a discount custodian, we will make that recommendation, but you get to decide if you want to take our recommendation or not.
Can you make any investment decisions without our approval?
No, we do not have discretion (ability to make changes to your investments without your approval or knowledge). We provide our recommendations and implement the ones you approve with you.
Can you work with organizations that do not have a large endowment?
Yes, we help any size organization whether there is a large endowment to be invested or just a bit of money that you’re setting aside for an upcoming event. We also help cash management, which means making sure you have cash when you need it.
When should you hire a fee-only financial advisor?
When you want advice that isn’t shaped by what pays the advisor more. If your current advisor is hard to reach, your returns feel disconnected from your investment policy, or you’re paying AUM fees without a clear sense of value, it’s worth the switch.
How does fee-only financial advice benefit my nonprofit or institution?
You pay for time, not transactions. That means no incentive to over-trade, no hidden product markups, and no commissions influencing what gets recommended. Advice is tied to what’s best for your organization, nothing else.
Will you manage our investments directly?
No. Fearless Finance does not have discretion over your accounts. Your planner provides recommendations and implements the ones you approve, alongside you. Your assets stay at your existing custodian.
What institutional services does Fearless Finance provide?
Asset allocation, investment selection, cash management, investment policy statement review, and quarterly rebalancing check-ins. All led by Lori Atwood, CFP, with over 25 years of institutional finance experience.
Why should institutions work with a fee-only fiduciary financial advisor instead of a commission-based advisor?
A commission-based advisor profits from what they recommend; that’s a built-in conflict. A fee-only fiduciary is required to put your interests first, full stop. For institutions with a board to answer to, that distinction matters.
Can a Fearless Finance advisor work alongside our existing custodian or investment platform?
Yes. Your assets stay where they are. If a different custodian would genuinely serve your organization better, your planner will say so, but there’s no pressure or requirement to move anything.
